Ozell Williams

Mr. Ozell Williams affectionately known as “Booster” was born December 21, 1932, to the late Leola Smith and Moses Morris Williams in Metcalf, Georgia. He was raised on a farm of sharecroppers and at the age of twelve he moved to Thomasville, Georgia and at the age of seventeen he moved to Miami, Florida where he worked as a Longshoreman.

In 1953 Ozell was drafted into the United States Army, where he would serve honorably for over twenty-nine years retiring as a Master Sergeant followed by another nineteen years as a civilian dedicated employee for the Department of the Army.

In 1954 he married Beatrice Johnson and to this union of twenty-two years four children were born. Ozell has two more children before remarrying in 1977 and raising an additional two children with his wife Hye Jung Williams of forty-eight years.

Booster, as he was affectionately known, loved the military, fishing, food, music, animals, and all sports. He fondest memories were of his childhood on the Georgia farm where he says he got his love for God and all people. He was a man who never met a stranger and would strike up a conversation with anyone that crossed his path, literally. He was introduced to and became an avid, very competitive player of dominoes after moving to Lake City, Florida in 2019. Losing did not set well with him which made the game all the more fun and we believe only added to his years.

Booster is preceded in death by his parents, Leola Smith and Moses Morris Williams; stepmother, Cora Lee Williams; sisters, Mildred Shotwell and Lilly Ruth Hazelton; brothers, Radie A. Williams and Chester Vickers; and grandson Tevin Woodley.

Booster leaves behind to cherish his memories: his devoted wife Hye Jung Williams; five daughters, Emma (Ozell) Graham, Erma Williams, Faye Williams, Kimberly Winder, and Jennifer (Michael) Freeman; three sons, Darrel Williams, Gregory Winder, and Mike Kang; three sisters, Sylivia Williams, Evelyns Smith, and Eddie Mae Burley; three brothers, VT (Miriam) Williams, Ronald G. (Darlene) Williams, and Morris A. Williams; eight grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends.
