Hercules Maxwell Obituary

Hercules Maxwell, 87, entered eternal rest on December 1, 2025, in Clarksville, Tennessee. He was born on March 18, 1938, in Lake City, Florida, to the late Leroy and Queen Maxwell, and was a proud native of Watertown (Crossing), Florida.

Hercules lived a life defined by service, integrity, and dedication. He faithfully served his country in the United States Army, retiring as a Chief Warrant Officer 4 after 31 years of honorable service.  His distinguished military career included significant work with Pershing Missiles, where he earned the respect of his peers and superiors alike.

Following his military retirement, Hercules continued his commitment to public-service ds a Captain with the Columbia County Sheriff's Department, where he enjoyed a second fulfilling career. Even after retiring a second time, his desire. to, contribute to his community remained strong. He went on to work many years with the Columbia County Board of Elections, ensuring fair and trusted democratic processes.

Hercules was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 33 years, Annie. L. Maxwell; and his brothers Louis “LJ” James Maxwell, John “Fido” Thomas, and Reuben L. Thomas.

He leaves to cherish his memory five loving children: three sons—Craig (Bridget) Maxwell of Wesley Chapel, Florida; Keith (Lisa) Maxwell of Clarksville, Tennessee; and Ryan (Colette) Maxwell of Temple Terrace, Florida—and two daughters, Malinda Meggan Maxwell and Cicely (Thomas) Cratch of Lawton, Oklahoma. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy (Charles) Coppock; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews; and many sorrowing family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

Hercules Maxwell's life of service, strength, and love will continue to inspire all who knew him.
