David Baker, Jr. Obituary

David Baker Jr., of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on November 12, 2025, at the age of 66. He leaves behind a legacy as complex, resilient, and joyfully unpredictable as the jokes he loved to tell. David’s life was marked by both profound challenges and remarkable triumphs. His defining characteristic was his relentless determination to rise above hardship. He worked tirelessly to better himself, demonstrating a strength of will that inspired all who knew his journey. His successes were not measured by conventional standards, but by the unyielding effort he devoted to overcoming personal battles and creating a better life for himself and his family. He found immense pride and joy in his work at the Osceola Rest Stop, where every day brought new material for his ever-growing collection of stories. One of his favorite pastimes was entertaining friends, coworkers, and strangers alike with his colorful tales — often about rumored illegal crossings on Interstate 10 — delivered with dramatic flair and mischievous charm.

A devoted sports fan, David lived and breathed football. He was a proud, unapologetic Jacksonville Jaguars supporter, believing every season that “this would be their year.” He was the king of the bad dad joke, the master of an ill-timed remark, and the man who could make you laugh in moments you least expected, even if you felt guilty about it later. He wouldn’t have had it any other way.

Early in life, David served his country as a warrior in the United States Army, where he earned an honorable discharge. That same spirit of courage and perseverance guided him throughout his years. He found immense joy and purpose in his family, and an unwavering fight to keep going through whatever life placed in his path.
